The Magnificents

Hi-jacking the airwaves with reference points ranging from the Mary Chain and the Stooges to Kraftwerk and Neu!, come The Magnificents. Formed at Edinburgh School Of Art, they burst onto the scene with "Kids Now", released on German label Erkrankung Durch Musique. Next was the "Four Claws Of The Underground EP" on Scandinavia. Their debut album "The Magnificents" comes courtesy of high-flying Edinburgh label KFM. (Beatbreakers 10/03/04)

Mangomad

Edinburgh's Mangomad previously came to light as one half of the Masters Of Truemanship (they did a great tribute to former Hibs star Franck Sauzee, 'The Man From Marseille'). Mangomad's debut solo album 'Electrotherapy' is a great collection of dubby pop tracks, described by the Big Issue In Scotland as "A masterpiece... so incredibly uplifting you'll need plastic surgery to remove your inner smile".

Marshan

Masrshan have just released their debut album "Songs From Southern And Baseline". Kerrang! said of the band, "Scotland isn’t that widely known for stoner rock, but in keeping with the UK scene’s recent kick up the arse, Glasgow’s Marshan are kicking out the rocking, blues fuelled jams. Not merely concerned with heaviness, as with so many bands of the genre, there’s a distinct influence of The Allman Brothers and Crosby, Stills & Nash, with honky-tonk piano and harmonica solos thrown into the mix. Your parents will probably love this too. For once that’s no bad thing." (Beatbreakers 4/8/04)

Geoff Martyn

Geoff may have been an early member of one of the biggest bands Scotland has produced in the last ten years, but shows little regret at missing out on the big time. His live debut album "Something Good", recorded at the intimate Tchai Ovna tearoom in Glasgow's West End, provides an excellent showcase of his talent. With recent demo tracks recorded with his full band showing even more promise, it's surely only a matter of time before Geoff Martyn gains the sort of acclaim enjoyed by his former bandmates. Monkeytribe

Glasgow hip hop collective Monkeytribe are further proof that Beatbreakers don't have to be guitar bands. Providing one of the highlights on the Gdansk compilation of electronica, the group have linked-up with German dub label Meteosound for the release of their stunning single "Delaware". Monkeytribe

Kirkcaldy electro-punk duo Motormark first came to Jim's attention in 2001 with their Ramones-sampling single 'Let's Go' on Too Pure records... Jane and Marko's first album 'Pop Up' followed on Spain's Popchild label. Their stunning second release 'Chrome Tape', recorded with The Grid's Richard Morris, is released on Alec Empire's Digital Hardcore label. (Beatbreakers w/c 25/10/04)

Mother And The Addicts

Mother And The Addicts serve up a great blend of punk and rock & roll to make them one of Scotland's most exciting live acts. Mother struck a deal with Chemikal Underground in late 2003, before actually putting the band together. Debuting on the live circuit in January last year supporting Sufjan Stephens, they've gone on to play gigs with the likes of Belle And Sebastian, Yeti, Sons And Daughters and label-bosses The Delgados. After two glorious singles, the band unleash their debut album 'Take The Lovers Home Tonight' on August 22.

Multiplies

Glasgow-based band Multiplies formed in the spring of 2003. They claim to have come about as "a reaction to the stagnant, over-intellectualised music scene in Glasgow". Already one of the city's most talked about live acts, they've also gigged in London and Berlin. A string of high profile supports with bands as varied as Weird War, Deerhoof and Scissor Sisters has helped spread the word, and in April they self-released a split 10" vinyl ep with The Kitchen. More recently 'Megafist' featured on Fierce Panda's 'Glowing Underground' EP. (Beatbreakers w/c 13/9/04)

Mydas

Edinburgh band Mydas have 2 T In The Park appearances under their belts, as well as performing at Gig On The Green. Other highlights for the band include supporting Ocean Colour Scene at the Barrowland. Latest recruit to the band is bass player Graeme Brown. He recently performed solo in front of Richard Park (Fame Academy) on BBC Scotland's Offside, gaining the unofficial title of Scotland's best singing footballer (he also plays for Cowdenbeath!). My Latest Novel

According the the Metro, "These hush-a-bye kids are one of the more intriguing bands to emerge from the local rock pool in a while and should easily find a place in the hearts of Belle And Sebastian, Tindersticks and Velvet Underground fans". Don't let that make you think My Latest Novel are twee though... Listen to 'Sister Sneaker Sister Soul' for proof that My Latest Novel also know how to handle epic rock!

Invited to play this year's In The City music convention in Manchester, as well as It's Jo & Danny's Green Man Festival in Wales, the Greenock band already have countless record companies sniffing around.

Mylo

Mylo is the brainchild of Skye native Myles MacInnes. With influences ranging from Prince to Daft Punk and Scissor Sisters, The Face have described him as "Scotland's answer to Royksopp". His album "Destroy Rock'N'Roll" is set to be one of the releases of the year. (Beatbreaker 12/5/04)
